The following
tips were taken from the FRAUD FREE Calendar created by the Government of
Ontario:
Do – keep photocopies of all cards and
identification in a safe place
Do – choose a pin that will be hard to
“crack”
Do – destroy bank statements and ATM
records
Do – remember to take your card and
transaction record after every use
Don’t – write your pin # down
Don’t – reveal your pin # to anyone,
including family and friends
Don’t - use birthday, address or phone
# as personal pin #
Don’t – provide credit card info unless
you know the merchant
PROTECT YOUR CREDIT / DEBIT CARD
Prevent
the spread of counterfeit money. Choose features that are easy to remember to
help protect you from money loss.
Feel and See the Difference
Touch
the raised surfaces of the money
Tilt
your money and look for changing
colour and images
Look at
and look through money for a watermark, security
thread and a see
through # in the amount of the bill
Beware
of Emails that say you can make big $$ for little effort.
Phishing scams is a new identity theft scam
that persuades consumers to provide bank information, credit card # or personal
information online.
If
someone comes to your door and claims to represent a charity, call the local
chapter to confirm the fundraiser’s identity.
High pressure tactics, vague answers, no tax
receipts and post office boxes for addresses are all signs of scams.
PHONEY CHARITIES
CRIMINALS DON’T
NEED MASKS AND GUNS; THEY JUST NEED YOUR CREDIT AND PERSONAL INFORMATION!
